I have started a new YouTube channel called Music Bites which is going to be doing a weekly video, each covering a different aspect of music theory and how it links into practical music – a link which I think is all too often forgotten.
This has been on my to do list for quite some time, but have never had the time to devote to making it happen, so this is a nice upside to the Covid-19 lockdown for me!
In this welcome video I talk about who I am, and that while I am a pianist, singer, trombonist, musical director, composer and arranger, and overall lover of music – one of this things that I find makes my love of these things even stronger is that fact that Music Theory binds them all together.
Music Theory is unfairly thought of as something that you just have to do – especially anyone who is wanting to take music exams beyond grade 5 – and I want to use these videos to show just how interesting and exciting music theory is. Having a good understanding of the subject makes any musician better and more well rounded.
The weekly videos will be looking into a range of subjects, sometimes looking into the basics and the fundamentals of music theory, other times looking at a more in depth analysis, how mathematics and physics plays a role in music, or sometimes something a little more abstract.
Why should you watch these videos? Well if you have any interest in music, or play an instrument then I will be making these videos for you! I will be looking at music theory as not just a ‘classical’ exercise, but as a whole, and how it affects all music, from Beethoven’s Fur Elise to Baby Shark and everything in-between (although, not all that much into Baby Shark)
I would love to hear from you all and if you have comments or suggestions on future content then let me know. You can always contact me or leave a comment on YouTube.
It would be really great if you would Subscribe to my channel on YouTube and if you want to stay up to date with all the videos you can also press on the bell icon to get a notification each week when I upload a new video.
